Elephant

Elephants are large earthly mammals of the Elephantidae family. Right now there are three families of the elephants: 1) Asian Elephant, known as Indian Elephant 2) African Bush Elephant 3) African forest Elephant. In the late 2,000 b.c. other species became extinct, last ice age. Back then there were Mammoths.

The female elephant having gestation period is 22 months. This is the longest of any land animal. At the birth the calf's weight usually 260 lbs. The animals usually live for 50 to 70 years. The record was found that the oldest elephant lived was 82 years young. In 1956 in Angola the largest elephant was shot, the weight was 26,000 lbs. It was the largest elephant recorded. But there are also small elephant which are the size of the pig. This are prehistoric species the lived on the island of Crete.
According to March 2007 estimate the were 500,000 to 700,000 individual in the African elephant population
Aristotle one said about elephants, "the beast which passeth all others in wit and mind". Elephant are not predators, we are the once who make them be that way.
