Safety in the barn is important because you will spends lots of time with your horse inside the barn, make sure all the equipment within the barn is stored safely. Do not allow the animal to get into the barn by itself. Always lead your horse to the barn. It is a good idea to train your horse for this so that it becomes safe for other people or animals present at the time the horse starts kicking in the barn. While taking the horse into the barn try using a lead rope for this purpose rather then using a halter. Using a lead rope will give you more control. While doing so, keep in mind not to hook your fingers through the halter straps or rings. There are chances of your fingers getting caught and injured if the horse tries to pull away.
Most of time people get hurt around horses it is because the horse was spooked and was attempting to get away from whatever spooked it, so always remember when handling your horse or even just watching a horse to take basic safety precautions.
Always keep your animals separate. Avoid placing them alone in a closed place. This is simply because animals need not necessarily get along well with each other. They could get restless and this could make the situation hazardous for you and the other animals.
